Help for Today
Hope for Tomorrow
Community Services League connects neighbors with immediate support and practical pathways toward lasting stability.
Building Stronger Families
and Stronger Communities
Community Services League is a nonprofit organization serving neighbors throughout Eastern Jackson County and the Kansas City region.
We help people meet immediate needs while working alongside them to build greater financial, housing and employment stability. Rather than addressing one challenge in isolation, CSL looks at the complete picture and helps each person create a practical path forward.
Every neighbor’s situation is different. That is why our work begins with listening, building trust and connecting people with the combination of resources, coaching and encouragement they need.

Something Extraordinary
CSL’s story began in 1916, when twenty young women in Independence came together to help neighbors who were sick, struggling or living in poverty. Among them was Bess Wallace, who would later become First Lady Bess Truman.
Their belief was simple: when neighbors care for one another, communities become stronger. More than a century later, that same spirit continues to guide CSL.
